Wanderer's Wife (Jen Kingwell) - Stripes in Section 8

If you're doing the 1.5" stripes across, here's the modifications for Section 8.

Here are cutting instructions (I will only label the sizes if they differ from the original pattern):

Row 1 (dark blue): 1.5"x9.5" for the top, and 1.5"x9.5" for the bottom strip

Rows 2-10: same as the pattern

Now to put it together. We'll start by sewing together the top strip sets (one set of three and one of six). I ironed these seams open.

Next, we'll attached the strip sets to the blocks underneath. I ironed the heart seam open and the diamond seam towards the strip set (the seam on my heart block was ironed towards the bottom part of the heart, so the seams would nest).

Next, sew the heart block portion and the diamond block portions together and add the long dark blue strip. I ironed open between the heart and diamond block and towards the dark blue strip on the end.

Next, sew the dark blue strip to the bottom star block. I ironed towards the dark blue strip.

Next, attach the top piece to the top of Section 9 and the bottom piece to the bottom of Section 9. I ironed open on both seams.

Now attach the top of the diamond in square (llama) block to the bottom of the diamond/heart portion and the bottom of the diamond in square block to the top of the star portion. I ironed towards the diamond in square block both times.

Finally, fold back the seam between sections 8 and 9 and sew the partial seam along the left side of the diamond in a square block. I tacked forward and back at the start and end of the seam. And then I ironed it open. Tada, really only the one partial seam and it wasn't too bad.

And the Americana version of this, looks like so (after I redid the strips on Section 9):

I'm quite pleased with how both of these quilts are turning out. Happy sewing!
