Sew Mama Sew Give-Away

So I am joining up with the Sew Mama Sew Give-Away day. This has nothing to do with my quilt naming contest, which is yet to come.

    My favorite tradition is singing carols together. When I was younger I was going from home to home with Christmas carols with my friends. I love the people reaction who were very pleased that we are trying to keep this old tradition. I hope that my daughter will do the same when she will be older:)

    We are still creating traditions for our own nuclear family, but we have always gone to my father-in-law's house on Christmas morning. He always has a HUGE tree and a fire in the fireplace and we sip on mimosas and pass out presents. simplybeu(at)gmail.com

    We're just starting making our own traditions! But, as a kid, we did the Dutch St. Nick and I loved the suspense as St. Nick and Black Piet came and rattled on the windows with switches, and as they came in throwing candy etc all over! loved that!

    We used to change our kids' clothes while they were sleeping on Christmas Eve so they would wake up in brand new pajamas. They loved it and still ask for new pajamas, but they are too old for us to change their clothes for them now :)

    My dad's a professional Santa Claus and we've had a family picture in his chair every year since he started. You can watch his evolution as a Santa is you line up all the pictures. ^_^

    My favorite tradition is going out into the woods to get our tree. It started when I was a kid with my parents & sister and now we have a big group that goes. My parents, my sister and I and both of our husbands and all 7 of our kids head into the snow these days. It's so much fun!

    Our only real tradition is traveling. This year we will drive to my in-laws the weekend before Christmas, but I'm happy to say that we will be celebrating the holiday here at home for the first time that I can recall. Even when I was going through chemo and didn't take a chance on visiting my family (lots of little kids = lots of germs and chemo = low white blood counts), we went to my in-laws. I think we are going to cook a ham, make some veggies, and bake a pie, and then sit on the couch and watch whatever we want. Well, there will probably also be a light show somewhere, too, and maybe an extra walk for the dogs. See, not having any traditions means that I get to make it all up for myself! It makes me happy just thinking about it.

    My favorite tradition is walking the neighborhood with my daughter on Christmas Eve to see all the Christmas Lights. We share this time, just the two of us. Been doing it since she was a young teen, and now she is a Mommy of 2 daughters. I hope someday she does the same thing with her girls!

    On Christmas Day after lunch & presents the whole family plays games - board games or things like charades, it doesn't really matter. The important thing Is to have fun & be a bit silly. Thanks for the lovely giveaway.

    My favorite holiday tradition is on Christmas Eve we put It's a Wonderful Life on the t.v. in the background & then we take pictures while we open our gifts to each other. So many of our Christmas pictures have scenes from the movie in the background. It's tradition!

    We started celebrating Winter Solstice in addition to Christmas a few years ago and it's become a favorite tradition. I make bird feeders with my kids, my husband cooks a really good wintery meal, we light a candle before dinner, and after the meal, we get to open 1 gift each: a book.

    Though it's been a few years, I used to love reading Christmas stories with my family every day of December leading up to Christmas. Darn this whole grown up thing. :) My favorite current tradition is coming home from all the family holidays and unwrapping gifts with my husband in front of our *own* tree.
